Christmas Countdown
Well, it is less than two weeks until Christmas! Everywhere you go, one hears questions like, "Are you done with your shopping? Wrapping? baking?" Those of you who know me know that I love Christmas and manage very nicely to fit Christmas music, decorating, and other fun into the season of Advent which is full of anticipation, even to the point of longing.
How can Christians manage the balance? I can't answer for everyone of course, but for me, it is a matter of priorities. So on these long dark nights I set my alarm clock for an hour earlier (meaning 5:30) so that I can spend about 45 mintues with God. My time with God takes many forms such as journaling, contemplative prayer, reading devotions. I don't always make a "connection" with God but I can always sense God's power and presence. I have discovered that doing this helps me maintain a sense of calm and serenity in the midst of the season.
At Emmanuel this year I have been talking about how to have the best Christmas ever, and we are focusing on doing the following things each day.
~ speak words of love and encouragement
~ listen in silence for God
~ watch for God sightings
~ care for others
Being intentional about those things will help keep priorities straight and give you a sense of peace.
May you be a blessing, Pastor Carolyn
